What is it?
TED Talk by Essam Doad, 2018 – How we can bring mental health support to refugees
Why should we watch it?
This short talk has big impact. Essam Doad is a child psychiatrist who has been working in refugee camps for over 2,5 years. He has witnessed how people have not only lost their lives, but also how many have been losing their souls and mental health. He tries to make a difference in a child’s life by stimulating good memories, making the child look like a hero, changing the story that the child will tell himself for the rest of his life. In our eyes a small change that has a huge impact for the souls that still have to grow up. Essam calls it The Power of the Golden Hour. Essam set up Humanity Crew, an international aid organization specializing in the provision of first response mental health interventions to refugees and people in crises. We think that not only the children are the heroes, so is Essam.
